HOSPICE AGM
WEDNESDAY 16 FEBRUARY 2011
At The Shakespeare Hospice Annual meeting, the first held at Stratford Town Hall the Hospice’s supporters and members of the public were given an opportunity to reflect on the previous year’s achievements and hear more about the ways the Hospice plans to provide care for the local community in the years ahead.
Presentations were given by; Angie Arnold, the Hospice’s Chief Executive, who outlined the Hospice’s vision and plans for the next five year; Alex McDowell, Head of Fundraising and Ben Day from Touch FM, who celebrated some of the fundraising achievements and recognised the contribution made by some of the 100 heroes and the Hospice at Home team who spoke about their vital work in the community. Arguably, the highlight of the evening were the presentations given by two of the Hospice’s Day Hospice patients who shared their experiences of the Hospice and the care they have received.
Pat Dunn, Head of clinical services also indicated that there have been record numbers of visits to the Day Hospice in the past year, with an increase of 4% from the previous year in the number of visits and an increase of 20% in the number of new referrals. Commenting on these figures Pat said: “The Shakespeare Hospice’s model of care which incorporates a Day Hospice and a Hospice at Home service means we can support our patients right throughout their illness or recovery as well as providing more support to those who are affected by a loved one’s illness. This significant increase in the number of Day Hospice visits reflects the outstanding care and range of services available at the Day Hospice and the hard work of all the team. Specific new developments include the care we can now offer for patients with end stage heart failure while there has also been an increase in the number of carers accessing our help. The increasing numbers of service users also demonstrates the need for continued support from the local community, whether through volunteering, fundraising or donating”
