The Shakespeare Hospice Christmas Appeal

A letter from Angie Arnold, CEO, The Shakespeare Hospice

Dear Supporter

The Shakespeare Hospice provides exceptional palliative care and support to over 1000 patients and their families across South Warwickshire and the North Cotswolds each year. The Hospice provides Day Hospice care 5 days per week, 24/7 Hospice at Home care, and adult counselling and bereavement support. The Hospice also provides bespoke Young People’s Services; supporting young carers, bereaved children and a Transitional Care Service for life limited young people aged 16-24 years old.

The Hospice won a national award last year for its high-quality services and are leading innovation in palliative care service development.

I would like to ask for your help in supporting this worthy cause.

Throughout the festive season The Shakespeare Hospice at Home team will support local families who will share their last Christmas with a loved one. The Hospice at Home team provides care and support to patients who are in their last few weeks, or days of life, and enables those who wish to die at home to do so in the comfort and dignity of their own familiar surroundings, with their families nearby.

The Hospice at Home team provides support to families 24 hours a day, seven days a week and this service is vital in supporting the whole family, at a time that can be extremely difficult for everyone involved.

This service also prevents unnecessary admissions to hospital and enables patients to be discharged from hospital, in a timely manner, to be at home for Christmas.

Families we have supported have told us:

“What a truly wonderful team, all the care, the hugs (especially the hugs) meant so much. Mum was treated by you all how we treated her, with dignity and respect. I hope someday we can repay your kindness.”

“From the bottom of my heart – thank you for looking after my husband – it meant so much for him to be surrounded by his family”.

Based on previous years, we estimate that the Hospice at Home team will make 100 visits this December.

It costs £273,750 to run the Hospice at Home service each year, approximately £750 per 24 hours, including out of hours on call.

I would be most grateful if you could consider donating to our appeal, which will help us to raise much needed funds to enable more families to be together, for their last Christmas at home.

If you are able to make a donation, you will be making precious moments together for our patients and their families.

With my very best wishes for a Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

Yours sincerely

Angie Arnold
