A beloved Stratford-upon-Avon business is honouring a cherished life and giving back to the community in a truly heartwarming way this festive season.
Marco’s Italian Delicatessen, a family-run gem in the heart of Stratford since 1991, is paying tribute to co-founder Sara with a deliciously generous gesture at this year’s Christmas Lights Switch-On on November 15.
Sara, who co-founded the deli alongside her husband Marco and Father Tony, was known for her warmth, kindness, and infectious smile. In 2020, she was diagnosed with a degenerative liver condition and received compassionate support from The Shakespeare Hospice, particularly from George, one of our dedicated Counsellors. George helped Sara navigate difficult conversations and live with dignity and courage throughout her illness.
Sara sadly passed away in August 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and community spirit. In her honour, Marco’s will be serving hot drinks and slices of the UK’s largest panettone at the Christmas Lights event, with all proceeds going to The Shakespeare Hospice.
This festive fundraiser is not only a celebration of Sara’s life but also a powerful way to support others facing life-limiting illness. Every warm drink and sweet slice will help fund vital hospice services, including counselling, nursing care, and family support.
Come along, enjoy a taste of Italy, and help us light up lives this Christmas.
