Stratford-upon-Avon Rotary Club and The Shakespeare Hospice recently held their annual Golf Day at Stratford upon Avon Golf Club raising over £5,000 for The Shakespeare Hospice.
16 teams of 64 players participated on a windy and challenging September day at Stratford on Avon Golf Club. The outstanding achievement was by Barney Davis who scored a hole-in-one on the 16th hole! The winners of the Charity Golf Cup were the Prontaprint Team comprising of Alex Graham, Tadhgh Martin, Andy Bull and Barney Davis. The Startin Kia Warwick’s team were runners up whilst the Anglo Welsh team came third. Other individual prizes were won by Jonathan James, Tom Hanson and Roy Hubbard
The golf was followed by an excellent evening meal and an informative talk by Sarah Duncan and Hannah McKelvie from the Shakespeare Hospice who gave an update. Mention was made that the Hospice were sadly providing end-of-life support at home to Francis Prentice, the Golf Club President and Rotarian.
David Taylor, the Rotary Club President said “Many thanks to Stratford Golf Club for allowing us to use the course, Startin Kia Warwick has stepped in as the new Principal Sponsor of the event this year and all those who have supported the event. Also a big thank you to Jude Bowley, Jenny Gregg and the team of Hospice helpers for organising the registration and fundraising including the 2nd Hole ‘Double Your Money’ and the Raffle. Sadly, Francis Prentice has subsequently passed away. Francis leaves a great legacy for both the Shakespeare Hospice and Rotary - and he will be greatly missed.”
A date of 24th September 2024 has been provisionally booked for next year’s event. Further details will be published nearer the time.
