To commemorate this incredible journey, we are inviting you and your organisation to showcase your support for The Shakespeare Hospice by becoming a member of an exclusive club – The 25 Club.

The 25 Club

For a minimum £1,000 donation to The Shakespeare Hospice, your organisation’s logo will be on our 25th-anniversary timeline for the next five years, along with a link to your website and some information about your organisation. Your logo will also be placed at the top of the webpage.

Not only that, your support for a much-loved local charity will also be recognised in one or any of the following ways:

  • A tagged social media post
  • A news story on our website
  • A team photo with a cutout of the Hospice’s 25th-anniversary logo
  • A story in our newsletters
  • An invitation to all our supporter events during 2024
  • Access to our community space at our Hospice (subject to availability)
  • Access to Hospice marketing materials for your own publicity

1999

The Hospice opens its doors

The Hospice opens its doors to patients for the first time and the Hospice’s first shop opens on Shrieves Walk in Stratford-upon-Avon. 

2000

The Hospice grows

The Day Hospice extends its opening hours from two to four days a week. New shops are opened in Alcester and Henley-in-Arden and the Hospice hosts its first fete. 

2001

First Chief Executive appointed

The Hospice continues to grow, as Jeanette McMillan is appointed the Hospice’s first Chief Executive. The Hospice also launches its first lottery scheme for supporters, called the 200 Club. 

2002

Hospice at Home planning

Plans get underway for a new Hospice at Home service. The Hospice also launches a Breathlessness Management Clinic and its Stratford-upon-Avon shop moves from Shrieves Walk to Greenhill Street. 

2003

Changing of the guard

Angela Deacon becomes the new chairman of The Shakespeare Hospice, with Duncan Forbes appointed new CEO. The Hospice also opens a recycling shop at Burton Farm. 

2004

5 years of care and compassion

The Hospice celebrates its 5th birthday and launches its new Hospice at Home Service. Singer & actress Diana Coupland becomes the Hospice’s first Honorary President. 

2005

Life Well

The Hospice launches “Life Well”, an initiative to encourage patients at the beginning of their journey with a life-threatening illness, to refer to the Hospice’s Day Services.

 

2006

Celebration of Life

The Hospice launches a “Celebration of Life” 6-monthly remembrance services for those who have lost loved ones. Broadcaster John Nettles becomes Honorary President of the Hospice. 

2007

Diversional Therapy

The Hospice establishes funds to help develop Diversional Therapy Services. The Hospice is also awarded £700,000 by the Department of Health to help with Hospice refurbishments. 

 

2008

Bookshop Opens

The Shakespeare Hospice Bookshop on Rother Street opens for the first time. The Hospice launches its new “Information and Support Services and Hospice at Home extends support to out of hours. 

2009

New surroundings

The Day Hospice undergoes refurbishment, including the opening of a Sanctuary. The Hospice also begins supporting heart failure patients and Angie Arnold is appointed the new CEO. 

2010

Bike ride launched

The Hospice hosts its first Great Shakespeare Ride. The Burton Farm recycling shop breaks £1 million fundraising total for the Hospice and actor David Bradley becomes Honorary President. 

2011

Family Support Services

The Hospice launches a brand new Family Support Service. Hospice at Home patients are also offered complementary therapy services for the first time

2012

Furniture shop opens

The Shakespeare Hospice opens a Furniture & Homeware store at Avenue Farm Industrial Estate in Stratford-upon-Avon. The Hospice also pilots a Children's Bereavement Support service. 

2013

Young People’s Service

The Hospice begins providing pre- and post-bereavement support for young people aged 5-18. The Hospice also hosts its first Dragon Boat Race and opens a new shop in Wellesbourne. 

2014

Transitional Care

The Hospice celebrates its 15th birthday by launching a new Transitional Care Service, for 16-24 year olds with a life-limiting condition. The Hospice also receives a visit from HRH The Prince of Wales.

2015

Carers Support

The Hospice pilots a support group specifically for carers and welcomes its first Transitional Care patient to the Hospice. The Hospice also opens a new shop in Kenilworth. 

2016

Award-winning

The Hospice receives the GSK Impact Award, a national award run in partnership with The Kings Fund that recognises excellence in charities improving health and wellbeing in their communities. 

2017

New Patron appointed

Sir Peter Rigby, British entrepreneur and founder and Chairman of Rigby Group (RG) PLC, becomes patron of The Shakespeare Hospice. 

2018

National recognition

The Shakespeare Hospice is featured on BBC’s Children in Need appeal and on Midlands Today. The Hospice also launches its Donation Station at Avenue Farm. 

2019

Reception refurbishment

The Hospice’s reception undergoes refurbishment, thanks to volunteers from NFU Mutual. Beauty Therapy is introduced at the Day Hospice and the Hospice launches its first “Rainbow Run”. 

2020

The Hospice in lockdown

The Hospice quickly moves to virtual and remote support in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. An urgent fundraising appeal is launched to help raise funds during the pandemic. 

2021

Day Hospice refurbishment

The Day Hospice undergoes a full refurbishment in preparation for welcoming patients back on site. The Hospice also opens an online shop and hosts its first Open Water Swim.

2022

The Hospice re-opens

The Day Hospice re-opens its doors to patients following the pandemic. The Hospice also launces a new Motor Neurone Disease (MND) clinic and Tracey Sheridan becomes the new CEO.  

2023

5-year strategy

The Hospice launches a new 5-year strategy, with a new Vision, Mission and Values. The Hospice’s courtyard undergoes refurbishment, with funding from The Rigby Foundation, and launches a brand new website.
