The Shakespeare Hospice - Hospice Acquires New Specialist Movement Therapy Equipment

The Shakespeare Hospice is excited to announce the acquisition of a MOTOmed Loop La Prof, a versatile and innovative piece of movement therapy equipment. This marks a significant enhancement in the Hospice's ability to provide tailored physiotherapy services to its patients.

The purchase was made possible by a grant from The Access Foundation, which was nominated by an Employee of The Access Group, who is a long-term supporter of the Hospice.

The MOTOmed Loop La Prof is designed to offer arm and leg exercises adaptable for a wide range of physical abilities, from the physically able to those facing significant physical challenges. This all-purpose equipment is developed specifically for people with movement restrictions, allowing users to train and exercise while seated in a chair or wheelchair.

"The addition of the MOTOmed Loop La Prof to our physiotherapy services will greatly benefit our patients," said Liz Handcock, Physiotherapist at The Shakespeare Hospice. "This equipment promotes movement therapy similar to normal cycling and hand cycling and supports passive, active-assisted, and active movements. It ensures that our physiotherapy can be better tailored to individual needs."

With its adjustable resistance to physical exercise, the MOTOmed Loop La Prof allows individuals with declining health to exercise for longer periods of time, thereby maintaining better health and emotional wellbeing. This is particularly beneficial for patients who were previously very active and enjoyed sports. The equipment will be central to the new exercise groups planned for the coming year, which will include sessions for more able individuals working together to maintain fitness under the supervision of the Hospice's therapy team. Additionally, one-to-one sessions will be available for those needing greater support.

The MOTOmed Loop La Prof's different therapy modes make it suitable for individuals across South Warwickshire with various conditions, including Cancer, Parkinson’s, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Motor Neurone Disease (MND), and Dementia.

"We are incredibly grateful to The Access Foundation for their funding, which has made this acquisition possible," added Liz. "The MOTOmed Loop La Prof will be a tremendous asset in helping our patients maintain their physical health and emotional wellbeing."
